Literacy through Fire Safety Awareness

“This resource is very visual, accessible to all and inclusive.  It covers every aspect of the Revised Framework.  One of our pupils said of the film, “you felt like you were actually there.”  The children were totally absorbed by the unit of work and were all able to access the material provided... the material is great and can be adapted according to class needs.”

Sarah Stanton, Assistant Head, Childs Hill Primary in Barnet.

“The film drama was so realistic and engaging. It especially struck a chord with some of our less confident writers who, following on from the drama, created probably their best written work of the year.  Thank you so much for a fantastic resource! “

Richard Kirby, Yr 6 Teacher, Edgware Junior School in Barnet.

“Our staff have been really enthusiastic and motivated by this resource.  The pack provides everything the teacher needs, the film, fantastic photographs and  interactive activities...  It is visually stimulating and saves teachers time.”

Rosie Barnes, Primary Strategy Literacy Consultant in Blackburn.

“The drama gives pupils real purpose for their writing... It keeps the pupils thoroughly engaged, even after
several viewings.
We will use this resource for revision in preparation for the SATs. The boys have been especially engaged and motivated... It is ideal for meeting the needs of the Renewed Framework...

The drama is so powerful.  This is a resource that we will use again and again.”

Joanne Bradley, Literacy Coordinator and Yr 6 Teacher, Shadsworth Primary in Blackburn.

“The resource really motivates children... it gives literacy back to children. They can work it out at their own
level... I have thoroughly enjoyed using this resource.”

Fran Ashton, Yr 6 Teacher, Intack Primary in Blackburn.

“I am so very impressed with the Fire Literacy... it really fuels the children's imaginations and some of the
children have produced some wonderful pieces of writing based around it. Thank you for this fabulous
resource.”

Richard Curry, Literacy Coordinator and Yr 6 Teacher, Our Lady of Muswell Hill Primary School in Haringey.

English and the Media

“This was an exciting and challenging whiteboard resource, which stimulated the pupils’ imagination in year 8. The pupils produced their best written work based on this resource. The pupils became involved in ‘Lee’s Story’ (Biography unit) and were interested in finding out about him and his life.

The clear teacher notes are easy to follow and use in the classroom. There are good quality resources to use, which clearly explain the features of the text.  Additionally the ideas for classroom activities are challenging and fun!  Pupils in year 8 enjoyed the unit and many pupils who were previously “turned off” with writing activities, found this resource grabbed them and stimulated their imagination.”

Sarah Keenan, English Teacher, Maragaret Beaufort Middle School in Bedfordshire.

“This resource is really excellent.  It captures pupil's attention and appeals to visual learning tendencies.  It has good pace and progression and the reports are very realistic.  We even compared the online report with a current BBC News Online report to compare the features!  It has helped my class understand these features better than before.”

Wayne Brown, English Teacher - Northern Ireland.

”Dramatic Media has designed an interactive curriculum tool to stimulate discussion and creativity by using a variety of ICT based approaches to teaching and learning. As such its content is valid for the 21st Century, focused on Media themes such as institution, audience, bias and popular culture and is well linked to the National Curriculum... The time used in preparing lesson plans is more than rewarded in the richness of the resources and the deep knowledge that can be gained through discussions and whole class activities."

Alan Hackett, Media Teacher, Campion School in Northamptonshire.

Final Score

“Final Score is very impressive. Good graphics, topical and interesting interactive activities. Good teacher and pupil resources... They (pupils) find the subject matter more interesting and it brings the media to ‘life’. The resource covers all areas of the non-fiction exam paper... The pupils respond well to the interactive activities and it adds variety to the delivery of lessons.

It allows them to use their ICT skills and to build upon them, allowing them to see how things have purpose across the curriculum.”

Brenda Cochrane, Literacy Co-ordinator for Longdendale Community Language College in Tameside.

“It (Final Score) is proving a great introductory activity for our new year 10s who are going to be working towards G.C.S.E. and Entry Level English next year. It has really helped them to get working together... It (Final Score) has enabled me to engage the interest of vulnerable young people and helped them to see that
G.C.S.E. is within their capabilities. It has also helped me to start to establish a group identity...
I think the possibilities for use with vulnerable pupils are great. It should not be viewed simply as a resource for
G.C.S.E. English pupils – there is a lot more to it than that.”

Mary Cullen, Deputy Head at Bridgeway Pupil Referral Unit in Tameside.

“The written resources are good follow up activities, plus I like the ‘independent’ learning aspects of the interactive chapters... I have welcomed the opportunity to use this interactive  resource to facilitate the learning in my classroom. The English Department at St Thomas More has purchased this product and will be incorporating it in both key stage 3 and 4 schemes of work. A winning resource!”

Victoria O’Brien, English Teacher/Drama subject leader at St Thomas More RC High School in Tameside.

Young Offender: Freedom or Detention

"Having watched the Dramatic Media DVD - 'Young Offender: Freedom or Detention' I was very impressed by the quality of the film and the supporting material for Schools.  I was keen to pilot this as part of a Stress Free session and did so with a Yr11 group.

The class were really engaged with the content and discussions around the story afterwards.  It is a very useful tool not only for Teachers and Youth Organisations who may wonder how to undertake PSCHE, also for Coaches who will natuarally be able to to apply and use the content to support young people in thinking about the challenges they have faced, those they will encounter in the future, and the behaviour which does, and does not work for them.

Teachers and Learning Mentors who supported the session were very impressed by the potential of this resource alone and for longer term PSCHE and SEAL requirements, let alone other titles available.

I am happy to highly recommend Dramatic Media's material to those who may be looking for a resource that young people can relate to and will gain from personally with the appropriate support and nurturing."
